Catching up

I realize my recent absences may have left you hanging a bit. Let me catch you up on a few thing that have been going on.

Baxter
After two days of rough and tumble playing with Poppy, it became obvious that his raging hormones and her budding hormones were a very bad match. Coming up on being 6 months old, Poppy was mere days from going into her first heat and mum was terrified it would happen 1) while Baxter was still in the house, waiting for his new foster home and 2) before Poppy’s already scheduled spay appointment.

Some things just can’t be left to chance.

So Baxter was moved temporarily to Rescue Coordinator, Jessica’s house until his long-term foster home/potential new owners could finish off fencing their yard. Sadly, we haven’t seen Baxter since he was neutered and his double cherry-eye was fixed, but I hear he looks very handsome now (more so than he did before). He is settling into his new home and doing his best to become the winner of a foster-failure.

Poppy
Poppy’s surgery went very well. She was spayed, had two hernias fixed, had her nostrils widened, her palate shortened and had a stray baby-tooth removed.  She came home with strict doctors orders to take it easy for two weeks – no running, jumping, rough-housing, etc. The second she was home, she ran down the back stairs to go outside, and then ran back up them when she came in and jumped on the couch to be petted. There is just no stopping the tornado.

Dr. Sra and his team at Southglen Veterinary Hospital did such a wonderful job on her belly incision, it was a faint red line on the day of the surgery and has already all-but disappeared. She did come back for a check-up and was supposed to have the sutures in her nostrils removed, but would you believe the little bugger put up such a fight that the vet said they could only be removed if she was sedated. It’s a good thing these sutures are dissolvable. For now  it looks like she has twin boogers on the sides of her nose.

Little C
Little C came for a visit on Friday. It was his first visit on his own – ever. first of many to come – hopefully. Mum spent the week jumping around like she had a burr in her butt.

“What are we going to do with him? What if he doesn’t like coming here? What are we going to feed him? What if? What if?”

Silly woman, he had a blast. He and Poppy chased each other around the house a few dozen times, we ate tacos, he and The Will played a million video games and before we knew it, it was time to take him back to the Grandparents’ for bed. Now mum is scouring the internet for fun things to do with 5/6-year-old boys.  I hear there may be cookies to be made during the next visit. Mum, they better not have chocolate in them so you can share them with ME!
